Kui Buri National Park, located in Thailand's Prachuap Khiri Khan province, is a remarkable sanctuary and one of the country’s best destinations for spotting wild Asian elephants in their natural habitat. With over 320 protected elephants roaming freely, visitors have an astonishing 99% chance of encountering these majestic creatures during their visit—an experience that feels both intimate and awe-inspiring. Alongside elephants, the park is also home to herds of gaurs (Indian bison), golden jackals, sambar deer, langurs, white-handed gibbons, wild boars, and Malay porcupines. Though rarer to spot, elusive species such as leopards, tigers, bantengs, dholes (Asian wild dogs), and Malay tapirs also inhabit the park’s dense forests, highlighting its vital role in wildlife conservation. Kui Buri's open savannas, waterholes, and salt licks provide ideal vantage points for ethical wildlife viewing, often from designated safari trucks accompanied by knowledgeable local rangers.
The park also boasts an impressive diversity of birdlife, with over 260 species recorded, making it a paradise for birdwatchers. Daily sightings include herons circling elephant herds, as well as red junglefowl, Indochinese rollers, and Asian openbills. Rarer and more exotic avian species such as red-bearded bee-eaters, white-crowned hornbills, maroon woodpeckers, and spectacled spiderhunters can also be spotted by keen observers. Reptile enthusiasts will find interest in the park’s rich herpetofauna, with around 60 known reptile species, including red-headed kraits, Pope’s pit vipers, rough-necked monitor lizards, and Burmese green lizards. The forest landscape of Kui Buri is equally captivating, composed of dry and moist evergreen forests with species like Dipterocarpus tuberculatus, Hopea odorata, and Terminalia chebula, as well as various palms. This pristine ecosystem offers a rare glimpse into Thailand’s untamed wilderness, where wildlife thrives and nature reigns supreme.

Wild life observatory park not too far from Hua Hin. The park is very well organized by the park ranger. We jumped on the back on the open air tracker to search for the wild elephant, water buffalo, red bull and much more. We were lucky enough to observe hurt of buffalo and elephants. We were lucky that the weather was not too hot, which made it perfect for exploring day

Beautiful park great place to spot elephants. You will be driven around on a pickup truck. Along the way there are several stops where you can see elephants if you are lucky. Raincoats are for sale in case of rain and umbrellas are provided in the car. Highly recommended.

🐘 Kui Buri National Park – real Thai-style safari! If you wanna see wild elephants and black bulls (gaurs) living freely, this is THE place. The officers here are super friendly and explain everything with care. You will need to hop on a pickup truck for 2-3hours in a 7.5km long (15km round-trip safari through the forest) — wind in your face, birds, and pure nature vibes. You can rent binoculars for 100฿ — worth it when you spot elephants or family of them or gaurs walking across the grasslands 😍 No chasing or forcing animals here — everything’s calm, respectful, and real. So in someday or some month it might be rarely see them as they might not be show up to tourist easily. We were lucky to see a family of Elephants and the cubs at the first 10mins drive after entering to wild. They are so beautiful! We gave a tip to guide and driver as they are so cooperative to watch and point out when the animals show up ! Recommended season is Oct to Dec, Dont come at Summer time of Thailand!!! #KuiBuriNationalPark #ThailandNatureTrip #ElephantSafari #HiddenGemsThailand

We were lucky enough to see nearly 20 elephants, as well a huge herd of Gaur, hornbill and other bird species. It's 850 baht per truck with driver and a guide. 200 baht per person for park entry fee. You get taken to 4 different view points and will stop for you to look at other animals. The staff are super friendly and our guide knew lots of information.

Come here, get a guide with a car, and hope you spot some animals. Beautiful nature. Seeing wild elephants was the best part—it took us like 1–2 hours to find one, not easy! Felt very ethical towards animals here. The guides are really friendly, good vibes all around.
